Obituary

Helen Eunice Stahl Chaffin of Trumann, AR passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the age of 96 at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Russellville, AR. She was born September 30, 1929 in Jonesboro, AR to Eugene Earl Stahl and Nellie Florence Metcalf Stahl. She married the love of her life Junior (John Nathan, Jr.) Chaffin shortly after his return from WWII at the war’s end in Germany. She was a graduate of Bay High School class of 1947 and a classmate of baseball star Wally Moon. She retired from Singer Company in Trumann working as a secretary in the main office until it closed. Her second career was at American Greeting Card Company in Harrisburg as the secretary to the plant manager. After raising her family she fell in love with the game of golf. She played often in tournaments with her golfing friends JoAnn Burgess, Nina Trentham, and Pauline Thompson. She continued to play into her mid 80’s. She was a Christian and a long time member of Trumann First Methodist Church. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed her grandchildren to the end. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Junior Chaffin, and brothers Bud Stahl and Roger Stephens. She is survived by her sons Mike (Cindy) Chaffin of Russellville, Greg Chaffin of Trumann, grandsons Nathaniel Chaffin of Russellville, Andrew (Heather) Chaffin of Ft. Smith. Great-grandchildren are Savannah and Trace Chaffin and Andi Johnson of Russellville, and Henley and Remi Chaffin of Ft. Smith. A special thank you to the staff at Stella Manor and two special staff friends, April Petite and Mary Hughes. Thank you for your excellent care of Mom these past few years. You are the best. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Trumann First Methodist Church or to Alzheimer’s Foundation. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17th, from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, AR. Graveside service and burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park in Veterans Park on Thursday, June 18th at 10:00 A.M. Online registry book can be signed at thompsonfuneralhome.net.
