Martha Petroff Holmes
April 19, 1925 - August 27, 2009

Mrs. Martha Petroff Holmes was born on Sunday, April 19, 1925, daughter of the late Rev. Ernest Alexander and Lola Griffith. Mrs. Holmes died on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis Tenn., at the age of 84 years 4 months and 8 days. Mrs. Holmes was born in Blue Mountain, MS, and had lived most of her lifetime in the Trumann area and was formerly of Memphis TN. She was the former clerk/treasurer for the City of Trumann, a member of the Trumann Fine Arts Council, Library Board, Poinsettia Club, Democratic Women, and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Poinsett County Sheriff, Ray Holmes in 2005; one daughter, Rita Johnson; one sister, Mary Griffith Strong, one brother, Ernest Alexander Petroff Jr., and her parents. Survivors include three daughters, Diane Thomas-Plunk of Southaven Mississippi, Dorothy Ione Beckner and Betty Inez Wess both of Harrisburg; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Trumann with Dr. Tad Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery in Harrisburg, Ark. Pallbearers will be James Thomas
