Samuel Wilford Hoover, Jr.
September 16, 1952 - January 25, 2013

Mr. Samuel Wilford Hoover, Jr., of Jonesboro died Friday, January 25, 2013 peacefully in his sleep at his home after a long illness at the age of 60 years, 4 months, and 9 days. Mr. Hoover was born Tuesday, September 16, 1952 in Crossett, Ark. and had lived in Bartlett, Tenn., for 22 years before moving to Jonesboro a year ago. Sammy was an outdoorsman who loved to fly fish, scuba dive, bicycle and backpack, He also enjoyed Go Kart racing, target shooting and photography. He was a Teamster, retired from Yellow Freight, Inc. and was currently a senior enrolled at Arkansas State University. Sammy was a member of the Stone Street Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Ark., and previously he attended the Rocky Point Church of Christ where he served as an elder. He was the son of the late Samuel Wilford Hoover Sr. and Wilma Hall Hoover. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Gaylene Bradsher Hoover; one daughter, Leanne Hoover Morrison and husband Matt of Charlton, MA; one son, Samuel Angus Hoover and wife Kristina of Easley, SC; two grandchildren, Jaclyn Kirby Morrison and Charles Joseph Morrison both of Charlton, MA; one sister, Kate Hoover of Sherwoood, Ark. and one brother, Billy Hoover of Jacksonville, Ark. Funeral services will be Monday, January 28, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Mitch Stevens officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann An online guest book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.

    I remember Sammy as a child, when he came into Sterling's 5 & 10cent store, in the Jacksonville Shopping Center, Jacksonville Arkansas. His father was manager of the store and I worked for Sammy's father, during 1966. Sammy was always smiling and a joy to be around.
