Rev. Bennie Ray Brooks

Rev. Bennie Ray Brooks, of Trumann died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 25 days. He was born Wednesday, August 27, 1930 in Carthage, Miss., to the late Lee Gordon and Estelle Settlemire Brooks. Mr. Brooks had lived most of his lifetime in Trumann and was retired from Hytrol Conveyors. He was also a Baptist minister, and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Trumann. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Viola Vance Brooks, one son, Eddie Lee Brooks, Sr., one brother Terry Lee Brooks and his parents. He is survived by three daughters, Viola Louise Chambers of Trumann, Ola Mae (Red) Dertinger of Philadelphia, Miss., and Norma Sue (Richard) Bell of Trumann; three sons, Raymond Ray (Paula) Brooks of Phoenix., AZ, Billy Frank (Sherry) Brooks and Bobby Joe (Regina) Brooks both of Trumann; three sisters, Bobbie Nell Jackson of Trumann, Georgette Guffey of Shirley, Ark., and Effie Lois Presley of Trumann; one brother, Jerry Lee Brooks of Trumann; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church in Trumann with Rev. Leroy Franks and Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, Ark. Pallbearers will be Todd Williams, Eddie Brooks Jr., Preston Williams, Keith Coffell, Cody Craig, Kelley Walters, Cody Eichorn, Jacob Brooks and Scotty Hudgens. Honorary pallbearers will be Justyn Craig, Hunter Williams, Noah Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Jacob Brooks, Joe Dertinger, Blake Robertson, Floyd Hudgens and Charles Pankey. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church, 904 Swaney Avenue in Trumann. An online guest book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.
