Marian Alice Melton
October 23, 1922 - July 8, 2023

Marian Alice (Powell) Melton closed her eyes to this world on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro, AR. Born October 23, 1922, in Black Oak, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Howard and May (Miller) Powell. Marian was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday with a beautiful birthday party on October 23, 2022, at Craighead Nursing Center. Family and friends gathered with her for the joyous occasion. Marian was a 1940 graduate of Black Oak High School. She married Geral “Dan” Melton on June 19, 1942, in Black Oak, AR. Once married they moved frequently for a few years due to his work as an agent operator for the St. Louis Western Railroad. They finally settled in Trumann, AR to raise their family. Marian worked at the Firestone store for seventeen years while Dan worked at the train depot. It was Trumann that they called home until moving to Jonesboro in 1974. In Jonesboro, they lived in the home on the property owned by her parents until she transitioned to nursing home care. Marian was a member of the Viva Drive Church of Christ in Trumann until she moved to Jonesboro where she became a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ. Being a fine cook, she could turn anything into something tasty and enjoyed cooking for her family. She liked tending to her plants and adored animals of all kinds. She especially cherished her cats, birds, and on occasion, pet squirrels. She was incredibly fond of a whitetail deer named Blaze. During her stay at the Craighead Nursing Center, the highlight of her day was visiting the sunroom near her room to look for the deer that often came out of the nearby woods. An additional interesting skill included being a sharpshooter with her .22 rifle. Marian was predeceased by her husband, Dan Melton, of 65 years, brothers, Paul Powell and Dr. H. M. Powell, and sister, Sarah Lavender.      She is survived by two sons: Dan (Katheryn) Melton of Bono, AR, and Darryl (Marty) Melton of Memphis, TN. In addition, she leaves five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren to cherish her memory: grandchildren include Kristine (David) Brooks of Pine Bluff, AR, Danual (Karyn) Melton of Jonesboro, AR, Alison (Jim) Barton of Memphis, TN, Josh (Mary) Melton of Jonesboro, AR and Jake Melton of Camden, SC. Great grandchildren are Drake (Jessica) Melton, Allegra Melton, Annsley Barton, James Barton, Ali Barton, Tyler (Brittney) Melton, Bryce Melton, Abby Williams, Jayce Williams, Andrew Melton, and Eleanor Melton.      The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on July 14, 2023 at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, AR. The memorial service and burial will be private. Mrs. Melton will be laid to rest by her husband  in the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.      The pallbearers will be Danual Melton, Josh Melton, Drake Melton, Tyler Melton, Andrew Melton, Andy Lavender, and David Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Barton, James Barton, Jake Melton and Jayce Williams.       Lasting memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.        Online register book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.
