Edwin Ray Hurd
February 22, 1933 - May 25, 2020

Mr. Edwin Ray “Ed” Hurd passed away on May 25, 2020.  He was 87 years old.  Ed was born on February 22nd in 1933 at Hurd’s Corner, a farming settlement just west of Trumann where his father and mother, John and Ethel Hurd, owned a country store and farmed cotton alongside John’s large family.         From birth until his last days, Ed loved people.  He inherited his Grandpa Hurd’s pleasure at a good joke, and his distinctive laugh made everyone around him happy too.       The family moved to Trumann in 1945, and Ed graduated from Trumann High School in 1954.  Many of his classmates remained his friends for life.  Ed and his “Papa” as he called John, loved the Cardinals, and listened to Dizzy Dean religiously on the radio and later on tv.  They drove to St. Louis at least once every baseball season to see their favorites in person.  He was a loving companion of his mother Ethel for her life. He is preceded in death by his father and mother and survived by a sister, Jane Hurd of Claremont, California, and brother, Coy Hurd and wife Debra, of Fayetteville, a nephew Dylan Hurd and wife Suki, and two grand nephews, Kaid  and Jack and Kaid’s wife Katy and daughter Penelope.  The family will hold a graveside memorial service at a later time due to travel and congregating challenges under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.  The family is grateful for the caring support of our cousin, Dr. Verona Brown, and the staff of Woodlawn Heights Nursing Facility.  You may honor Ed with contributions to Woodlawn Heights Nursing Facility, 2800 Neeley Street, Batesville, AR 72501       An online guest book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.
